M Plus Matcha is Leeds’ new must-visit matcha spot

Leeds has a new matcha spot, and this one feels like it has arrived with serious intention. M Plus Matcha has opened on the edge of Hyde Park, just opposite the university, bringing ceremonial-grade matcha, creative drinks and ridiculously good matcha gelato to one of the city’s busiest corners.

Founded by Josh and Jennifer, the café has clearly been built with real care behind it. Jennifer travelled to Japan to source the matcha herself, bringing premium ceremonial-grade matcha back to Yorkshire for a menu that feels thoughtful, playful and genuinely exciting.

We tried three of the signature drinks: the Bronzie Matcha, Blue Curaçao Matcha and Lavender Matcha.

The Blue Curaçao was the most refreshing of the three, with a bright, citrusy flavour that made it feel like the perfect summer matcha order. The Lavender Matcha was softer and more calming, with a lovely floral note that didn’t overpower the drink. Then there was the Bronzie Matcha, which was indulgent, rich and seriously tasty - definitely one for anyone who likes their matcha with a sweeter edge.

And ohhh that gelato... M Plus Matcha serves matcha gelato in four different matcha strengths, so you can choose how intense you want to go. We tried the 60%, and it was smooth, rich and without a doubt the best ice cream or gelato we've ever tasted and that's with authentic Roman gelato included. In fact, the lovely owner Josh explained how they source all of their gelato ingredients direct from Italy which kind of explains this being the best gelato of all time. Italian gelato + ceremonial grade Japanese matcha = heaven on earth?

With its gorgeous drinks, considered menu and beautiful attention to detail, M Plus Matcha already feels like a spot Leeds will be talking about all summer.
