If you thought Leeds' matcha obsession couldn't get any bigger, think again.

Manchester favourite Matcha Kyoto has officially landed in Leeds with a limited summer pop-up inside Habibi, bringing its cult matcha drinks to the city for the very first time.

Live now and running until 12th August, you can order Matcha Kyoto's signature drinks from inside the restaurant before enjoying them in Habibi's beautiful dining room or out on its gorgeous terrace, which is easily one of our favourite places to spend a sunny afternoon in Leeds.

Of course, we started with the matcha.

Every drink is whisked fresh to order using premium ceremonial-grade matcha sourced from Kyoto before being finished with what might genuinely be one of the best matcha cream tops we've ever had.

We tried the Ube, Strawberry and Brown Sugar matchas, and every single one was incredible. The Strawberry was fresh and fruity, the Ube was rich and creamy, but the Brown Sugar completely stole the show. Sweet, caramel-like and perfectly balanced by the earthy matcha, it's one of those drinks you'll still be thinking about days later. The thick, velvety matcha cream on top makes them even better.

We also couldn't resist trying two drinks from the Arctic Dirty menu - the Vanilla Bean and the Ube Coconut. Served in a -86° frozen glass, they're unlike anything we've tried before and are the perfect option if you're after something a little different.

But it's not just about the drinks...

To celebrate the pop-up, Habibi has teamed up with Matcha Kyoto to create an exclusive menu of Japanese-inspired sandos, designed to perfectly complement the matcha.

Made using tasty shokupan bread, we tried both the Bulgogi Steak Sando and the Teriyaki Chicken Sando, and honestly, we'd order either again in a heartbeat.

The Bulgogi Steak Sando is filled with tender flat iron steak, house bulgogi sauce and rocket, while the Teriyaki Chicken Sando combines juicy boneless chicken thigh with sweet teriyaki sauce and crisp baby gem lettuce. The bread deserves a mention of its own too. Light, perfectly toasted and slightly sweet, it soaks up all those incredible flavours while holding everything together perfectly. We genuinely couldn't decide which one we preferred.

There's also a Tamago & Prawn Sando on the menu, filled with Japanese soft egg, tiger prawns and wasabi mayonnaise.

The whole collaboration feels like a perfect fit. You already know how much we love Habibi, and this partnership gives us yet another reason to visit. Whether you're stopping by for a matcha and brunch, or settling in on the terrace for a long catch-up with friends, it's one of the coolest foodie collaborations to land in Leeds this summer.

The pop-up is only running until 12th August, so if you've been meaning to try Matcha Kyoto without making the trip to Manchester, we'd recommend adding this to your summer list.

Just don't leave without ordering the Brown Sugar matcha. It's genuinely one of the best we've ever had.
