Riva Blu Review - a little slice of the Amalfi Coast at The Springs Leeds

There are some restaurants that instantly transport you somewhere else, and Riva Blu at The Springs Leeds does exactly that.

From the moment you walk in, it feels like you've left Leeds behind and stepped into a stylish restaurant on the Amalfi Coast. A lemon tree drapes through the dining room, colourful Italian artwork lines the walls and beautiful hand-painted plates add character at every turn. It's bright, vibrant and full of that laid-back Italian charm.

And thankfully, the food lives up to the surroundings.

We started with the Bruschetta Pomodoro and the Frittatina Cacio e Pepe. The bruschetta was everything you want it to be - fresh tomatoes, plenty of flavour and the perfect way to start the meal. The real surprise, though, was the frittatina. Warm, comforting and completely indulgent, it was essentially everything good about mac and cheese wrapped up and deep fried. Crispy on the outside, creamy in the middle and an absolute guilty pleasure in the best possible way.

Then came what can only be described as a proper Italian feast.

The Linguine Triglie was one of the most interesting dishes on the table. Packed with fresh fish and bright Mediterranean flavours, it felt different from your usual pasta order and was all the better for it. Every bite brought something new, making it one of those dishes you keep going back to for "just one more forkful".

The Lasagne was exactly what a great lasagne should be - rich, comforting and layered with flavour. One of those dishes that instantly reminds you why Italian food is loved all over the world.

We also ordered the Gnocchi Sorrentina, which quickly became a favourite. Soft pillowy gnocchi baked in a rich tomato sauce with bubbling cheese is hard to beat, and this version felt wonderfully warming and hearty. The sort of dish that makes you want to curl up with a glass of wine and stay all evening.

As if we hadn't already eaten enough, a Margherita pizza arrived at the table, and somehow we still found room. The base was light and crisp, the tomato sauce packed with flavour and the mozzarella perfectly melted across the top.

Alongside everything else, we shared a portion of zucchini fries which were dangerously moreish and disappeared far quicker than they should have.

What we loved most about Riva Blu wasn't just the food, though.

It's the atmosphere they've created. The interiors are beautiful without feeling over the top, the restaurant has a real buzz about it and every detail feels thoughtfully considered. It's the kind of place that works equally well for a date night, family meal or a long catch-up with friends over pasta and wine.

If you're looking for a restaurant that brings a little bit of Italian sunshine to Leeds, Riva Blu should absolutely be on your list.

Because while we can't all jump on a flight to the Amalfi Coast this weekend, this might just be the next best thing.
