Lancashire oat brand Oato launches a fresh matcha latte

Matcha’s takeover continues - and now one Lancashire brand is giving the drink a fresh, British-made spin.

Oato, the northern oat drink brand known for its fresh oat milk, has launched a limited-edition Fresh Oat Matcha Latte, available exclusively through Modern Milkman.

Made using 100% British oats, the new drink combines Oato’s signature creamy oat base with matcha, creating an easy at-home alternative to your usual coffee shop order. Unlike many of the long-life drinks lining supermarket shelves, Oato’s version is fresh, meaning less processing and, according to the brand, a cleaner taste.

The Fresh Oat Matcha Latte is available for £2.50 through Modern Milkman, meaning customers across the UK can have it delivered straight to their doorstep as part of their regular milk round.

It’s the latest launch from a Lancashire business that has been quietly making a name for itself since 2019. Founded by Carl Hopwood on the idea that fresh oat milk should taste just as good as fresh dairy milk, Oato has since become the UK’s highest-selling fresh oat drink, according to the brand.

Alongside its milk-round roots, you’ll now find Oato on the shelves at Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Waitrose and Booths, as well as online through Ocado.

The brand has kept its northern roots as it has grown, manufacturing in the UK using British-grown oats. Its Lancashire bottling site is also solar-powered, producing more energy than it needs across the year.

Founder Carl Hopwood said: “We are so excited about this latest launch, not least because it offers an exciting addition to the range, but also because it is the very essence of what Oato is: creamy, fresh, delicious, and of course British made.”

With matcha showing no signs of disappearing from our drinks orders anytime soon, this feels like a pretty good excuse to bring the trend home.
